It's finally the day, Guardians! Destiny 2 Season 15 is on the way and launches today! We're now have our first trailer for Season 15 - it's being called the Season of the Lost - and we have had the official reveal for The Witch Queen expansion too! Here's the latest ahead of the update...
UPDATE - Season of the Lost goes live today
We have our first trailer for Destiny 2 Season 15 which will also be known as Season of the Lost. In the trailer, the dates are revealed as 24 August - 22 February.
The Pre-Show has started
Bungie's Showcase Pre-Show has finally started on both Twitch and Youtube - It's a glorified slideshow, but a useful countdown clock to the start of the Destiny 2 Showcase.
It's worth noting that Destiny 2 servers should be offline now as Bungie is also preparing to release Update 3.3.0 an hour after the Destiny 2 Showcase starts.
AS SOON AS - Season 15 is set to start straight after Showcase
In this week's TWAB (This Week At Bungie) blog post, Bungie confirmed what we all expected. Season 15 is due to start as soon as it can after the Destiny 2 Showcase later today. This means we're looking at the following release schedule...
- Server Maintenance Starts
- 08:00 PST / 11:00 EST / 16:00 BST
- Update 3.3.0 Available
- 10:00 PST / 13:00 EST / 18:00 BST
- Maintenance Concludes
- 12:00 PST / 15:00 EST / 20:00 BST
Destiny 2 players should be able to log back into the game around 10:00 PST / 13:00 EST / 18:00 BST - this suggests that the Destiny 2 Showcase is only going to be around an hour in length. We don't know if that's the case, though. This is the first time in a little while Destiny 2 has been updated simultaneously on all platforms, so the Server Maintenance is going to be ongoing for a couple of hours after the initial update goes live.
UPDATE - The Witch Queen Expansion reveal incoming
Following the confirmation that Season 15 is indeed starting tomorrow, we now also have confirmation that Bungie is going to finally fully reveal The Witch Queen Expansion - following its delay to Early 2022.
We're not expecting to learn about too many details, but we should get a Cinematic Trailer and a release date if we're lucky. It looks like Season 15 is going to be the first of several narrative updates that really raise the bar for Destiny 2 ahead of the game's next major expansion and we can't wait to learn about where Bungie is taking the story next!
It's time to discover what lies ahead and learn the truth - whatever that may mean.
Changes to Melee combat coming
" Have you ever tried to throw a knife at an approaching Screeb, only to instead lunge forward and slap the Screeb in its gross exploding face? Have you ever accidentally wasted your hard-earned melee charge on a sad, lone Dreg? If so, there’s hope. Introducing… separate melee actions!"
Heading into Season 15, Destiny 2 is going to be getting separate keybinds/inputs for your Charged Melee Attack and your Uncharged Melee Attack. This should give you greater control of your abilities and help to further fine-tune your control of your Guardian.
You don't have to have this separate system equipped, but it might help if you have some issues with using your Charged Melee Attack when you don't want to.
Destiny 2 Season 15 Release Date
There isn't currently an official release date for Season 15 but using our powers of deduction, we can see that Season 14 will end on Monday, 24 August. It just so happens that this is the same date at the Destiny 2 showcase, so this could lead to a more formal date reveal during the live stream.
As the above tweet mentions, Season 15 is likely to start on August 24 also which could mean that the showcase will have a heavier focus on The Witch Queen expansion due in early 2022.
Given that previous Seasons have lasted around three months, 15 won't quite take up to 2022 and the expected launch of The Witch Queen. It could be that Season 15 will be extended to the end of the year or that we're due two seasons before The Witch Queen expansion lands.
Destiny 2 Season 15 Leaks
Bungie has managed to keep a tight lid on things so far and very little info has slipped out about Season 15, evident by the fact we're still unsure of its name. Longtime Destiny data miner @GinsorKR on Twitter did put out a name into the wild that could hint at a new Season 15 exotic.
More may leak over the next few weeks and if it does, we'll have you covered with the updates. We can't wait to see and hear more about what Destiny 2, Season 15 will bring when it finally lands.
